The Choral Union will be joining with many local church choirs from Cortland and other communities in central New York to sing Verdi's Requiem at 8pm Friday, May 3 and 3pm Sunday, May 5. The performance will include an 80-100 voice chorus, four stellar soloists, and a full symphony orchestra. The Choral Union's music director, Stephen B. Wilson, will conduct.

Soloists for this major cultural event will be Tamara Acosta, soprano; Ivy Walz, mezzo soprano; Jonathan Howell, tenor; and David Neal, bass. Neal is also the artistic director of The Arts At Grace (TAAG), a community outreach program dedicated to bringing great music to Cortland in performances that are free of charge. TAAG is co-sponsoring this concert in conjunction with the Department of Performing Arts at SUNY Cortland.

In 2010, the Choral Union and The Arts At Grace Chorus undertook a concert of an equally ambitious scope, J. S. Bach's complete St. Matthew Passion. The venue for both events was/will be the spacious 19 Church St. in Cortland.

The ensemble's pianist is the noted keyboard artist Alan Giambattista.

The Choral Union consists of SUNY students, faculty, and staff, and volunteer adult singers from central New York. Rehearsals are Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grace Holy Spirit Church on Court St. in Cortland. Music is provided, and there is no audition nor membership fee required. Anyone wishing further information should contact Wilson at 607-753-4615.
